Words that sound the same but have different meanings are known as homophones. These words are often a point of confusion not only amongst English learners but sometimes amongst native English speakers aswell!
I will be going over some of the most commonly confused words to help gain an understanding on the meanings of the word and what makes them different.
First in this series will be the words ‘Advice‘ and ‘Advise‘. So what’s the difference?
Firstly, we have the word advice, which is a noun and something which is given. i.e. ‘He gave his son advice about his new car’.
Now we take the word advise, this is a verb and is something you do….you cannot give it. i.e ‘He will advise his son about his new car.’
